Voice Over IP (VOIP) with BigBand

For those of you already familiar with VOIP technology, you may skip to the next section.

What is VOIP?

VOIP allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network or over a data network like the Internet. VOIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the internet then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular phone number. When placing a VOIP call using a phone with an adapter, you'll hear a dial tone and dial just as you always have.

There are also new personal business exchange (PBX) telephone systems on the market that utilize VOIP technology, within the inner office structure, from desktop telephone to the telephone server, where it is then transferred to either a VOIP service provider or converted to regular analog telephone signals to be used over normal telephone lines.

The advantages of using VOIP technology are simply put, savings on long distance calls.  For instance:  A company that has a satellite office in another state or country, can utilize a VOIP connection between the distant offices, for communications over the internet, without having the burden of massive long distance charges for the calls made between the offices.

One of the most utilized VOIP technologies in use by home users these days is Skype.  However Skype is relatively a new kid on the block, compared to VOIP technology in general.  VOIP technology has been around for over 20 years, however it initially suffered many problems due to inline compression and bandwidth bottlenecks.  Today, with newer compression techniques and high speed internet availability, VOIP technology has become a standard that is utilized even by many long distance telephone companies.

Using VOIP technology with the BigBand or BigBand Suites and the ZiPhone USB Telephones

Simple Simon's BigBand and BigBand Suites utilize the ZiPhone II USB Telephone, which is completely VOIP ready for any VOIP application or system you can throw at it.

BigBand has complete integration with Skype as a standard and as well, it is completely ready for any other VOIP technology you can normally use with your computer or your analog or digital telephone system. (digital adapter required for digital PBX systems)

As we mentioned in the previous section, there are many different office phone systems that allow you to make all of your long distance calls through a VOIP connection using VOIP hubs, routers and switches.

Simple Simon can also supply your company with advanced VOIP office phone systems to interface with the BigBand Suites to help you save hundreds and even thousands of dollars on your company's monthly long distance telephone bills.
