Government Polling Opinion polls are gathered by both news agencies and third parties in order to report on issues regarding government actions and those actions or decisions of politicians. Much of this information is gathered by individual solicitation, and then compiled manually. In order to provide timely reporting on this information, many interviewers are “put on the street” to conduct face-to-face interviews, or asked to call hundreds of people on the phone. This process is an arduous, and painstaking task which sometimes takes so long that the data may no longer be newsworthy or germane when finally compiled. Call processing systems can be programmed quickly and loaded with prompts to receive hundreds and thousands of calls simultaneously in order to collect polling information. Callers can express their opinions on a variety of topics which are accessible by pressing digits on the phone, or perhaps by speaking certain key words using voice recognition technology. In this manner, a variety of questions can be asked of callers, and the answers can be automatically tabulated for publication. The call processing system can collect and report on this type of information in a much more accurate and speedy fashion than a manual system.
